2025: A Year of Helping Families, Clearing Logjams & Celebrating Big Milestones

As another year wraps up, I’ve been doing what I encourage so many of my clients to do. I’ve been taking stock. Of the work, the people, and the moments that mattered most. I’m incredibly grateful for the trust you place in AfterLight, for the referrals, and for believing in work that helps families navigate life after loss with less overwhelm and fewer loose ends.

2025 was full of meaningful progress, complicated situations, and powerful stories. Here are just a few of the families and professionals we were honored to support:

Client Stories and Highlights

We helped him:

  • Gather and organize the required documentation
  • Complete and submit the stock transfer paperwork
  • Coordinate with his bank to obtain a medallion guarantee

By removing this long-standing task from his plate, John was able to move forward with confidence and return his focus to everyday life.

We helped her:

  • Find the right attorney in Florida
  • Identify assets and liabilities
  • Coordinate an estate cleanout
  • Manage the paperwork
  • And ultimately settle her mom’s estate

She didn’t have to carry the administrative burden alone. That’s exactly why AfterLight exists.

We helped her:

  • Coordinate a full clean-out of the home
  • Donate items thoughtfully and responsibly
  • Move personal keepsakes to Nadia’s home
  • Handle estate account and claim paperwork
  • Sell the vehicle and close outstanding accounts

A logjam became a plan, and then a plan became progress.

We assisted by:

  • Completing a full inventory of the condo contents
  • Facilitating a fair and transparent process using FairSplit
  • Coordinating packing and shipping to family members in multiple states

It’s behind-the-scenes work like this that helps families settle estates faster with less friction.

We helped her:

  • Review and organize existing legal documents
  • Prepare thoughtful, comprehensive questions for her attorney when updates were needed
  • Organize everything in a digital platform her sons could easily navigate
  • Fund her revocable living trust based on her attorney’s recommendations

This is proactive planning at its best. It is intentional, organized, and deeply caring.

📘 A major milestone: I published a book!
This year, Late to Your Own Funeral officially made its debut—in paperback, audiobook, and hardback—and continues to make its way into the hands of families, advisors, attorneys, and anyone ready to leave a legacy that’s a gift, not a mess. And if you’re still looking for a last-minute holiday gift, it also makes an excellent stocking stuffer. 🎁

🎤 A year of speaking, teaching, and advocatingI was honored to be highlighted in the media, on podcasts, and for several speaking events this year, including:
– An interview for Go Banking Rates
– A featured discussion with the Positive Aging Community
– The keynote speaker for The Legacy Effect in Naples, Florida
– The featured expert for AARP’s national 3-part Life After Loss series, offering guidance on navigating estate settlement, grief, and legacy organization. Click here to rewatch: facebook.com/aarpethel

Every opportunity reinforced the same truth. People want to plan well. They just need someone to make it approachable and doable.

✨ Looking Ahead
AfterLight continues to grow and thrive, and that’s because of you—your trust, your referrals, your support, and your belief in this work. As we head into 2026 and celebrate the beginning of our 7th year in business, I’m grateful and energized for everything ahead.Thank you for being part of this journey. Here’s to a new year filled with clarity, connection, and well-organized legacies.
