Navigating Taxes After a Loss (Yes, Even the IRS Needs Closure)

Let’s face it—dealing with the IRS isn’t exactly the highlight of anyone’s day, especially when you’re settling a loved one’s affairs. But as they say, the only things certain in life are death and taxes… and for executors, you get the pleasure of handling both at once!. It’s no wonder that one of the top questions we get from our executor clients is about how to manage taxes after a loss.

To help make this daunting task a little less taxing (pun intended), I’ve teamed up with Gary Massey of Massey and Company CPA to get his advice. Gary’s written a must-read blog post, “The Complete Guide to Filing Taxes for a Deceased Person,” filled with expert tips to keep you on the right side of the IRS. Plus, I’ve thrown in some of my own guidance for executors and surviving loved ones.

Happy reading—and may your tax forms be ever in your favor!
